Richard K. Sterling, M.D., M.Sc., FAASLD is the VCU Hepatology Professor of Medicine, Chief of Hepatology and Chief Medical Officer of the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health at Virginia Commonwealth University. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and his research, focused on viral hepatitis and HIV-Liver diseases, have been supported by the NIH for over 25 years. His interest in non-invasive assessment of liver disease severity led to the development of the widely used FIB-4 index reducing the need for liver biopsy. As a researcher, educator, and clinician, he brings over 30 years’ experience to the Foundation.
