Bruce A. Luxon, MD, PhD, FAASLD is chair of the Department of Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center, and chief of service for the Department of Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He holds the Anton and Margaret Fuisz Professorship in Medicine at Georgetown University. After receiving a doctorate in mathematics and medical degree from the University of Missouri, Dr Luxon remained at MU to complete a residency in internal medicine. Dr Luxon then did a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco. He is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.

In 1992, Dr Luxon joined Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he later served as professor of internal medicine and director of the gastroenterology fellowship training program. In 2006, he became a professor of internal medicine and director of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology and was the inaugural holder of the James A. Clifton Chair in Gastroenterology at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Luxon’s clinical focus is in hepatology, with special expertise in autoimmune hepatitis and cholestatic liver diseases as well as hepatitis C. His research focuses on defining the role that hepatic stellate cells play in causing liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.
